About the Faculty
Few resources shape the modern global economy as profoundly as petroleum. For a country endowed with the immense oil and gas reserves of Iran, choices made in this sector are never just industrial decisions — they are, at their core, a blueprint for national strategy. With global energy demand set to climb steeply in the decades ahead, oil and gas remain firmly at the center of the energy stage. The imperative is clear: prioritizing the development of world-class upstream talent must be a cornerstone of domestic policy.
It was with precisely this conviction that the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology was founded in 2002. With the combined support of the university's leadership and the National Iranian Oil Company and driven by the industry's urgent need for highly skilled upstream professionals, the department earned its charter from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. Today, it stands as the country's most comprehensive academic hub for Petroleum & Geo-Energy Engineering.
Recognizing the strategic weight of this mission, NIOC made significant investments to bring the vision to life — funding the construction of core facilities and equipping cutting-edge laboratories. To date, over 3.1 billion rials and more than five million dollars have been channeled into building a dynamic academic environment where the next generation of energy leaders is being shaped.
